BRIEF SUMMARY OF ICU SERVICES IN B.M. HOSPITAL, GNCTD.
Location: The ICU at B.M. Hospital is a 10 bed facility (05 Ventilatory beds out of total 10 beds) located on the first floor of the hospital. It is easily approachable through a 24 x 7 transport from any area of the hospital. It is also connected to Operation Theatres and Casualty through internal staircase for quick staff mobility.
Facilities Available: The ICU is well equipped with modern Ventilators, Multiparameter Monitors, Defibrillators, ABG machine, Syringe Infusion pumps, DVT pumps, Motorized beds, Portable X-ray, AMBU -Bags, Glucometer and other lifesaving equipment.
- Various essential consumables like IV cannula, Ryle's tube, Ventilator Circuits, Urinary catheters, gloves, CVP lines, etc. are available in different sizes in pre-sterilized packings.
- All the Vital & Essential drugs for critically ill patients are maintained in stock and in case of shortage immediate Local Purchase is resorted to if necessary.
Types of patients admitted: The seriously Ill/critically ill patients of all age groups are admitted to the ICU as per the services available and bed availability. About 50 to 60 such patients are admitted every month.
Common diagnosis are: COPD, Status Asthmaticus, Status Epilepticus, CHF, Severe Anemia, Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever, DSS, Cerebral Malaria, Meningitis, Enteric Fever with Complications, DKA, severe bronchiolitis, Acute Poisonings, Liver Failure, Eclampsia, Post-operative patients requiring Ventilatory Support/Hemodynamic Monitoring/Multiple Organ failure, Suicide Survivors etc.
